NIGERIA CIVIL WAR EVENTS (1967 - 1970)

26th May 1967        Lt. Col. Ojukwu convened a meeting of Elders
30th May 1967        Lt. Col. Ojukwu declared the Rep. of Biafra
6th July 1967          First shell was fired over the Biafra region and the war started
11th Aug. 1967       Biafrans took control of the mid-west
22nd Sept. 1967     Brigadier Banjo, Col. Ifeajunna and Major Phillip were tried and sentenced to death
Oct. 1967               Biafran forces blow up the newly constructed Niger bridge after crossing to Asaba.
Jan. 27th 1968        Biafra new currency was introduced
18th Sept. 1968      Owerri fell to the Nigerian forces
3rd, 15th April 1969 Biafrans took possession of Owerri, Umuahia fell to the Nigerian forces
March 1969            Ojukwu was promoted to the rank of General
Jan 1970                Biafran delegates in Lagos for peace talks
16th Jan 1970         Gowon received unconditional surrender from the Biafrans
